Land Registry

Around 1790 France began its first general survey of land and recording of property deeds. From 1808 Napoleon also instituted a survey of the Rhineland. After the withdrawal of the French, the Prussians continued mapping and filing and completed the registry of land into precise plots. Since 1830 an exhaustive land register has existed in the Rhineland.
