Like birth, baptism and marriage, the death of a person was now also recorded according to state guidelines. For hygienic reasons, funerals were no longer held in churchyards, but in cemeteries located outside the centre of towns and villages. The new church organization followed the dissolution of the churches and monasteries. In the course of secularization church property was nationalised. The church and monastery buildings served as accommodation for soldiers, stables for horses, or as storage magazines.
